The Pics may have struck first with two goals early in the 1st and 2nd period, but the Islanders stuck back hard with two goals of their own. The Pics then stuck back again in the 3rd period, but three quick goals sent momentum into IHC's favor, and they didn't look back, as IHC defeated the Elite squad 5 - 4.
Brigham Dubey struck first early in the 1st period when he fought on down on the shorthand, down towards the Pics attacking zone, and was able to drive through defenders and go around the net and put a targeted shot, high glove side to make it 1 - 0. Nick Zanin and Aiden Grabowski were credited with the assists.
Thomas Malatinec grabbed his 2nd career goal on the Elite squad when the goaltender tried grabbing the puck outside of the crease but fell and Malatinec took advantage of it and placed the puck over his prone body. Dubey and Parker Donahue were credited with the assists.
The Islanders were able to put two up in the 2nd period, to make it a brand-new hockey game going into the 3rd period.
Nick Disanti made it 3 - 2 when the Pics were on the shorthand again. Disanti got the outlet pass, and went one on one with the goaltender, and came out victorious. Simon Higgins and Kevin Avery were credited with the assists.
Hunter Dodds got added to the scoresheet under the goals column when he was able to push the puck through traffic in front of the net to make it 4 - 2. Chris Foster and Nick Disanti were credited with the assists.
The Islanders were able to put three in a row after Dodd's goal. The Pics were unable to even it up with the extra attacker, and the Islanders defeated the Pics 5 - 4. Jack Messing stopped 24 out of 29 shots in the loss.
GAME REPORT
It was a back and forth battle between the Premiere squad and IHC, but the Pics defeated IHC in overtime 3 - 2 due to a breakaway opportunity. Aaron Cholewa opened up the game with a goal about a third of the way into the 1st period when he got a deflection from Joe Bouchard, who intercepted a pass at center ice. Cholewa broke up and made a long distance shot that got through the goaltender to make it 1 - 0. Tyler Wilson got the secondary assist.
The Islanders put one on the board in the 2nd period, but the Pics were able to get back in the lead late in the 2nd period when Nick Foster got a quick little pop up deflection from Coleson Hanrahan. Foster was able to get the shot though on a soft shot that slipped past the goaltender high glove side to make it 2 - 1. Shu Inamura was credited with the secondary assist.
IHC tied it up half way though the 3rd period, but Foster used his experience to set himself up in a key position while IHC attempted to do a substitution while action was going on, and was able to get a pass from Sean Donoghue. Foster was alone verses the goaltender and beat him with a backhand shot, giving the Pics the overtime win.
Ben Zaranek picked up the win, stopping 17 out of 19 shots.
The Premier squad was looking to get back into the win column after dropping a hard-fought game against the Bruins, and they did against the Kings, defeating them 5 - 2.
Benjamin Goring scored early in the 1st period when he snagged a clearing pass from a Kings defender, and one timed it to pop the water bottle and make it 1 - 0. Connor Matthews and Alexei Filimonov were credited with the assists.
Sean Donoghue was able to make it 2 - 0 when he was able to redirect a Brock Baumann shot that came from the blue line. Tyler Wilson passed it off to Baumann, who took the one time shot from the blue line, and Donoghue was able to get his stick on it to redirect the shot and put it in opposite side of the net.
The Kings were able to put one up on the board in the 2nd period, but the Pics put three more on the board in the 3rd period. Wilson got what would end up being the game winning goal when he got a pass from Donoghue who was on the forecheck and was able to free the puck up. Wilson was all alone in front of the net and was able to get the shot off right before he was on the receiving end of an open ice check. Nicholas Rodrigues was credited with the secondary assist.
Brock Baumann was able to make it 4 - 1 when he was able to slip a sliding back hand shot past the goaltender up close. Wilson and Rodrigues were credited with the assists.
Aaron Cholewa was able to make it 5 - 1 with the goaltender pulled while the Pics were on the penalty kill. Carter Brunelle and Baumann were credited with the assists.
The Kings did put one up on the board in the waning seconds of regulation to make it 5 - 2. Jacob Brown stopped 25 out of 27 shots for the win.
The Pics started strong Sunday afternoon, but fell to the Bruins 3 - 2 in front of the faithful crowd.
Sean Donoghue opened up the scoring half way through the first period with an cannon of a shot from the point to make it 1 - 0. Connor O'Brien and Matthew Tullo were credited with the assists.
The Bruins put one on the board in the 2nd period to tie it up, but Dominick Balboni squeezed one on through the pads of Jake Romney. Tyler Wilson and Luc Fricchione were credited with the assists.
The Bruins were able to tack on two in the final minutes of the 3rd to skate away with the victory. Ben Zaranek stopped 37 out of 40 shots in the loss.
PREMIERPremier vs Potomac Patriots
Sean Donoghue lit the lamp twice, and Matthew Tullo put in the insurance goal to lift the Pics on top of the Potomac Patriots on Sunday morning.
The Patriots got one on the board early when Evan Rice was able to slip it past Ben Zaranek, but it was their only goal. Donoghue was able to tie it up half way through the first while on the power play when he was able to rip one high glove side while skating down the near side. Nicholas Rodrigues and Luc Fricchione were credited with the assists.
Donoghue was able to get the game winning goal just over 4 minutes into the 2nd period when he got the pass from Tyler Wilson. Wilson picked the pocket of a defender and passed it to the breaking Donoghue, who went forehand then backhand and lifted the puck into the back of the net while on the shorthand. Coleson Hanrahan was credited with the secondary assist.
Matthew Tullo was able to get the insurance goal in the final seconds of the 3rd period on the empty net goal. Connor O'Brien and Wilson were credited with the assists. Zaranek stopped 34 out of 35 shots for the win.
Premier vs Jersey Shore Whalers
The Jersey Shore Whalers battled hard, but the Pics skated away with a 4 - 1 victory late Sunday night. The Whalers lone goal came near the midway point of the 1st period, when Edward Slack deposited the puck in the back of the net.
Sean Donoghue tied the game up when he got a centering pass from Nicholas Rodrigues and put it in the back of the net. Tyler Wilson got the secondary assist.
Matthew Tullo got the game winning goal off a lighting of a shot with a feed from Luc Fricchione and Aaron Cholewa to make it 2 - 1.
Sean Donoghue made it 3 - 1 when he was able to take the puck away and brought it in. Tyler Wilson and Joe Bouchard got the assists.
Coleson Hanrahan notched his first point on the Premier squad with just over 3 minutes remaining in regulation as he got the shot in from the point. Joe Bouchard and Brock Baumann were credited with the assists.
ELITEPics vs New York Aviators
GAME SUMMARY
The Elite squad opened up Saturday morning action with a 3 - 1 victory against the New York Aviators. Victor Guastella was the only member of the Aviators who was able to score a goal in the 1st period. Benjamin Goring was able to tie the game up at 1 when he was able to get the pass from a breaking Bryce St. Martin down the wing and one timed it into the back of the net to tie the game up at 1. Martin Rudolf got the secondary assist.
Zack Fox got what would be the game winning goal just two minutes later in the 2nd period when he got a loose puck, and went to the other wing to get a clear shot and deposited the puck from near the blue line. Chris Foster and Brandon Shuman were credited with the assists.
Goring got the insurance goal at the 6:15 mark of the 3rd when he got the give and go pass from St. Martin and went the length of the rink to make it 3 - 1. Shuman was credited with the secondary assist.
Noah Behrens-Gould stopped 38 out of 39 shots for the win.
Elite vs Carolina Junior Hurricanes
The Pics battled hard, but fell 5 - 0, with Colin Sherwood stopping 33 shots in the loss.
Elite vs Rockets Hockey Club
The Rockets opened up the game, scoring at the 6:11 mark, but the Pics struck back two minutes later when Parker Donahue drew up the the blue line off a pass from Thomas Malatinec, and deposited the puck to make it 1 - 1. Martin Rudolf was credited with the secondary assist.
James Lynch made it 2 - 1 when he was able to get the puck around a defender and broke down the far wing. He took a shot from just outside the faceoff dot on the glove side and deposited it in the back of the net. Aiden Grabowski and Braeden Humphrey were credited with the assists.
The Rockets were able to get one in just three minutes later in the 2nd period, but Zack Fox was able to get free on a short handed attempt in the waining seconds of the 2nd period in a sportcenter worthy goal as he was able to get around his defender and lift the puck up and over the goaltender to make it 3 - 2. Nick Disanti and Chris Foster got the assists.
Martin Rudolf made it 4 - 2 in an ensuing confusion on the ice in which a Rockets player commited a penalty, but a Rockets stick went flying making the Rockets think the penalty was on the Pics. Rudolf was able to get the puck in through traffic. Thomas Malatinec and Benjamin Goring were credited with the assists.
Thomas Malatinec got his first goal as a Pic half way through the 3rd period when he found a open spot in front of the net. He got a pass from Benjamin Goring and redirected it on in. Martin Rudolf got the secondary assist.
Jack Messing stopped 20 out of 22 shots for the win.
PREMIER
The Premier squad skated into the IHC showcase on the first day, and skated out with a victory against the Metro Jets Developmental Program, defeating them 4 - 3. Brock Baumann opened up the scoring 4:39 into the 1st period as Baumann was able to deposit the puck top shelf glove side off a faceoff on the stick side of the Jets goaltender. Dominick Balboni and Corey McNally were credited with the assists.
Tyler Wilson made it 2 - 0 when he deflected a shot towards the net from the blue line from Luc Fricchione. Connor O'Brien was credited with the secondary assist.
The Jets put two up in the third, but Wilson made it 3 - 2 when he intercepted a "D-to-D" pass, and was able to get a clear shot toward the net. Wilson one timed it and made it 3 - 2. Sean Donoghue and Andrii Ievtukhov were credited with the assists.
The Jets tied it up 2 minutes later, but Nicholas Rodrigues was able to seal it away, obtaining his first game winning goal of his career when he was able to get the puck in through traffic off a pass from Joe Bouchard. Wilson was credited with the secondary assist.
Jacob Brown stopped 14 out of 17 shots for the win. The Pics then faced the Minnesota Mullets on Friday morning. The Pics had plenty of opportunities, but couldn't cash in until the 3rd period when Wilson finally slipped one past the goaltender when he pulled the rebound away from a Sean Donoghue shot to kill the shutout attempt. Bouchard was credited with the secondary assist. Landry Laird stopped 23 out of 26 shots in the loss. ELITE
The Elite squad faced off against the Knights in Friday afternoon action, but couldn't capture lighting in a bottle as they fell 4 - 2 in a back and forth affair. The Knights scored twice in the opening 10 minutes, but Benjamin Goring was able to intercept an uncontrolled puck and one time it into the back of the net to make it 2 - 1. Martin Rudolf and Braeden Humphrey were credited with the assists.
The Knights were able to tack one more on in the 1st to make it 3 - 1 until Aiden Grabowski lit the lamp at the 7:24 mark of the 3rd period when he broke down the wing on a 2 on 1 and went cross ice to deposit the puck in the opposite side of the goal. Bryce St. Martin and Goring were credited with the assists.
Jack Messing stopped 41 out of 45 shots in the loss.
The Premier squad battled hard, but fell in weekend action both nights. Alexei Filimonov scored the lone goal in Saturday's action, while Tyler Wilson scored the Pics only goal on Sunday night. Andrii Ievtukhov, Nick Foster, Sean Donoghue, and Nicholas Rodrigues all had assists.
The Elite squad battled hard, but the Cyclones swept the Pics 6 - 4 on Saturday night, and 4 - 2 on Sunday afternoon in a home-and-home series.
Saturday night's affair was a low penalty event, but not a low scoring one. Throughout the game, the scoring was back and forth, but two goals in the final three minutes of regulation on Saturday swung the game to the Cyclones. Simon Higgins scored twice, but it was not enough. Ray Picard stopped 38 out of 44 shots in the loss. Sunday afternoon's tilt started off with an unassisted goal from the Cyclones, credited to Matt LaJoie, but Nick Disanti was able to get the Pics on the board on an ensuing face off during the power play as he was able to get the puck in the net through traffic. Zack Fox and Braeden Humphrey were credited with assists.
The Cyclones struck back with two of their own, but Kevin Avery was able to get his first goal as a member of the Pics when he was able to put in the one timer push in when Nick Starosielski fed him the puck and made it 3 - 2. Hunter Dodds was also credited with an assist.
LaJoie put the insurance goal on the board with just under 4 minutes left. Jack Messing stopped 24 out of 28 shots in the loss.
The Pics skated into South Shore on a three game winning streak, and skated out with a season tying winning streak at four games, defeating the South Shore Kings 3 - 2 on Wednesday afternoon.
It took a period and a quarter for the first goal to be scored, and it was the Pics who scored when Kings goaltender Jagger Maving skated behind his net to play the puck, and got in the way of Matthew Tullo, and got called for interference. While on the delayed penalty, the puck got loose and found it's way to the stick of Aaron Cholewa. Cholewa passed it off to Corey McNally who placed it in the back of the near empty net as Maving was out of position.
Samuel Meyer stuck back just 3 minutes later, but Alexei Filimonov continued his point streak in the opening minute of the 3rd period when he got the puck from Connor O'Brien and got around the defender and deposited the puck high glove side. Tullo was credited with the assist.
The Kings tied it up just past the half way point of the 3rd period, but Tullo was able to capitalize on a loose puck while on the blue line forcheck on the penalty kill and went down the ice and scored on the shorthand tally. Dominick Balboni and Nick Foster were credited with assists.
Landry Laird stopped 24 out of 26 shots in the win. The Pics face the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs on Saturday at 6pm at the Olympia for the last home game before Thanksgiving.
PHC and the Pics scored a combined 25 goals, but the Philadelphia Hockey Club skated away victorious both days.
Cole Davis was one goal interrupted away from getting a natural hat trick on Saturday's game, but three unanswered goals from PHC, and Sabatino DiBenedetto game winning goal at the 5:21 mark of the 3rd period send PHC to victory on Saturday. Sunday was a back and forth battle, with the Pics scoring three times, but PHC once again scored three in a row in the 2nd to shift momentum temporarily their way. Johnny Blase was able to send the game into overtime, as he was on as the extra attacker and scored with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation. Neither team scored in the overtime period on Sunday, but PHC scored twice in the shootout while the PHC goaltender stopped two out of three Pics attempts to give PHC the sweep. |
