The Islanders stuck first early in the 1st and kept on rolling defeating the Pics 4 - 2 on Monday afternoon.
Thomas Malatinec and Matus Vojtech scored the Pics only goals late in the 3rd period. Jack Messing The Elite squad was looking to avenge their tough outing at the Showcase, and they were successful against the Islanders, as they defeated them 3 – 0 in front of the friendly crowd at the Olympia.
Nick Disanti capitalized at the 8:18 mark in the 1st period off while on the powerplay when he caused a deflection from a shot from Kevin Avery to make it 1 – 0. Chris Foster was credited with the secondary assist. Disanti made it 2 – 0 when he was able to put the puck in through traffic from the blue line. Andrej Vojtech and Brandon Shuman were credited with the assists. Chris Foster made it 3 – 0 when he put in the classic wrap-around on the far post. Tyler Genovese and Disanti were credited with the assists. Noah Behrens-Gould stopped all 39 shots he faced. The Premier squad was trying to get back to their winning ways against the Islanders but was unsuccessful as the Islanders defeated the Pics 3 – 1 on Saturday night.
Trystan Swiger scored early in the 1st period while on the penalty kill, but the Pics returned the favor late in the first period when Tyler Wilson was able to push the puck through the slot after a series of rebounds. Connor O'Brien and Brock Baumann were credited with the assists. The Islanders scored two more times, once in the 2nd, and another late in the 3rd when the Pics pulled the goaltender for the extra attacker. Ben Zaranek stopped 37 shots in the loss.
The Pics fell to IHC 3 - 2 on Wednesday afternoon after a late goal from Tamas Toth.
Trystan Swiger scored for IHC just past the halfway point of the first period, but the Pics struck back with just under 4 minutes left in the 2nd period when Alexei Filimonov broke down the wing on a two on one. Filimonov attempted to pass to the breaking winger on the opposite side, but the puck deflected off an IHC defender and went in top stick side to tie the game up at 1 a piece. Aaron Cholewa and Joe Bouchard were credited with the assists.
Philippe Hebert made it 2 - 1 halfway through the 3rd period, but Conner Dalton got the game tying goal just a minute later when he got the pass from Corey McNally off a wrap around attempt. Dalton one timed it into the back of the net. Andrii Ievtukhov was credited with the secondary assist.
Landry Laird stopped 42 out of 45 shots in the loss.
The Premier Pics skated out of the Winter Showcase with a final record of 3 – 1, only dropping their first game to the Fort Wayne Spacemen 7 – 2. Matthew Tullo and Brock Baumann were the only two players who scored. Tyler Wilson, Connor O’Brien, Nicholas Rodrigues, and Andrii Ievtukhov all had assists in the matchup. Pics goaltender Nick Digiacomo was credited with the loss, while Ben Zaranek stopped 23 out of 25 shots he faced.
The Pics then went undefeated the rest of the showcase, defeating the Steele County Blades 5 – 0, the Midwest Blackbirds 6 – 1, and the Las Vegas T-Birds 5 – 1. Dominick Balboni and Tyler Wilson each had a goal and assist. Carter Brunelle, Benjamin Goring, and Connor O’Brien each had goals in the contest against Steele County, while Sean Donoghue, Aaron Cholewa, Matthew Tullo, Corey McNally, Shu Inamura, Brock Baumann, Felix Appelt, and Andrii Ievtukhov all had assists. Landry Laird stopped all 21 shots he faced. In the Blackbirds contest, both Brock Baumann and Alexi Filmonov each had a goal and two assists, while Dominick Balboni had a goal and an assist. Connor Matthews, Nicholas Rodrigues, and Andrii Levtukhov each had goals. Sean Donoghue, Luc Fricchione, Mike Wilson, Carter Brunelle, Aaron Cholewa, Corey McNally and Joe Bouchard all had assists. Jacob Brown stopped 16 out of 17 shots. For the T-Birds contest, Sean Donoghue and Connor Matthews each had a goal and an assist. Connor O’Brien, Coleson Hanrahan, and Nicholas Rodrigues each had goals. Sean Roach, Tyler Wilson, Matthew Tullo, Brock Baumann, Alexi Filimonov and Andrii Levtukhov all had assists. Ben Zaranek stopped 16 out of 17 shots he faced. Highlights to be posted later.
Twin City might have got on the board first, but it was the third period that was key for the Pics, as the Pics defeated the Thunder 6 – 3 on Saturday night.
The Thunder started off with a goal early in the 1st period, when Gavin Simopoulos was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity to make it 1 – 0. A miscue from the second period opening faceoff left Twin City a man short, and the Pics capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a technically shorthanded goal when Nick Foster broke down the wing after getting loose puck from Sean Donoghue who won the face off. Foster one timed it from the point and it went in. Dominick Balboni was credited with the secondary assist.
The Thunder got one back a little over a minute later, but Matthew Tullo tied the game for the Pics when the power play unit was able to capitalize on the loose change and make it 2 – 2. Foster and Tyler Wilson got the assists.
Balboni got one of his own three minutes later when he was able to get the loose puck and spun around and deposited the puck in the back of the net. Luc Fricchione and Alexei Filimonov got the assists.
The Thunder evened it up a few minutes later, but that would be the last goal the Thunder would get during the game.
Sean Roach put the Pics ahead for good just five minutes into the 3rd period when he shoved in the pass from Aaron Cholewa. Filimonov was credited with the assist.
Benjamin Goring got the insurance goal with just under 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd when he got a pass from the corner from Nicholas Rodrigues and set himself up between the faceoff dots right, at the top end of the circles and put in a shot that popped the water bottle. Corey McNally was credited with the secondary assist.
Joe Bouchard got the empty net goal with 1:10 remaining in the game. The goaltending tandem of Landry Laird and Ben Zaranek stopped a total of 34 goals, with Laird stopping 19, and Zaranek stopping all 15 shots he faced. Zaranek was credited with the win.
The Pics were looking for a strong start against the Bandits and stole one from them as they skated away victorious 4 – 2 on Friday afternoon.
Connor Matthews started off the game with a goal early on when Carter Brunelle intercepted a pass and tried bringing it up the ice, but Matthews was able to corral the loose puck and beat Bandits goaltender Joe Hughes to make it 1 – 0. Aaron Cholewa was credited with the other assist.
The Bandits evened up the game three minutes later with a goal from Chris Cordeiro.
The Pics put in the loan goal in the 2nd period when Joe Bouchard got the goal in right off a face off. Bouchard got the loose puck and put it through the clear shooting lane to make it 2 – 1. Sean Donoghue and Tyler Wilson were credited with the assists.
Jake Lavoie got a goal for the Bandits to even the score up at 2 each in the latter half of the 3rd period, but the Pics were able to get the eventual game winning goal when Cholewa was able to redirect a Luc Fricchione pass. Brock Baumann was credited with the secondary assist.
Matthew Tullo got the insurance goal just over a minute later when the puck hit Wilson due to a clearing attempt. Tullo found the loose puck right in front of the mouth of the goal with nobody but the goaltender to beat and one timed the puck for the goal. Connor O’Brien was credited with the secondary assist.
The Elite squad wanted to avenge the previous night's loss, and they did, with three unanswered goals, and held off IHC's run in the end, defeating them 3 - 2 on Sunday night.
Hunter Dodds opened up the scoring when he was able to "clear the trash" and poke the puck through the mouth of the net to make it 1 - 0. Aiden Grabowski and Sean Ferus were credited with the assists.
Thomas Malatinec made it 2 - 0 when he went in all by himself and put a spin on the puck as he shot it. The puck deflected off the top of the goaltender's glove and trickled into the back of the net. Brandon Shuman and Noah Behrens-Gould, who captured his first career assist, were credited with the assists.
Bryce St. Martin capitalized on a rebound from a shot from Kevin Avery to make it 3 - 0. Brandon Shuman was credited with the secondary assist.
The Islanders put two up in the 3rd period, but couldn't capitalize on numerous power play opportunities in the 3rd period. Noah Behrens-Gould stopped 35 out of 37 shots for the win.
The Pics may have struck first with two goals early in the 1st and 2nd period, but the Islanders stuck back hard with two goals of their own. The Pics then stuck back again in the 3rd period, but three quick goals sent momentum into IHC's favor, and they didn't look back, as IHC defeated the Elite squad 5 - 4.
Brigham Dubey struck first early in the 1st period when he fought on down on the shorthand, down towards the Pics attacking zone, and was able to drive through defenders and go around the net and put a targeted shot, high glove side to make it 1 - 0. Nick Zanin and Aiden Grabowski were credited with the assists.
Thomas Malatinec grabbed his 2nd career goal on the Elite squad when the goaltender tried grabbing the puck outside of the crease but fell and Malatinec took advantage of it and placed the puck over his prone body. Dubey and Parker Donahue were credited with the assists.
The Islanders were able to put two up in the 2nd period, to make it a brand-new hockey game going into the 3rd period.
Nick Disanti made it 3 - 2 when the Pics were on the shorthand again. Disanti got the outlet pass, and went one on one with the goaltender, and came out victorious. Simon Higgins and Kevin Avery were credited with the assists.
Hunter Dodds got added to the scoresheet under the goals column when he was able to push the puck through traffic in front of the net to make it 4 - 2. Chris Foster and Nick Disanti were credited with the assists.
The Islanders were able to put three in a row after Dodd's goal. The Pics were unable to even it up with the extra attacker, and the Islanders defeated the Pics 5 - 4. Jack Messing stopped 24 out of 29 shots in the loss.
GAME REPORT
It was a back and forth battle between the Premiere squad and IHC, but the Pics defeated IHC in overtime 3 - 2 due to a breakaway opportunity. Aaron Cholewa opened up the game with a goal about a third of the way into the 1st period when he got a deflection from Joe Bouchard, who intercepted a pass at center ice. Cholewa broke up and made a long distance shot that got through the goaltender to make it 1 - 0. Tyler Wilson got the secondary assist.
The Islanders put one on the board in the 2nd period, but the Pics were able to get back in the lead late in the 2nd period when Nick Foster got a quick little pop up deflection from Coleson Hanrahan. Foster was able to get the shot though on a soft shot that slipped past the goaltender high glove side to make it 2 - 1. Shu Inamura was credited with the secondary assist.
IHC tied it up half way though the 3rd period, but Foster used his experience to set himself up in a key position while IHC attempted to do a substitution while action was going on, and was able to get a pass from Sean Donoghue. Foster was alone verses the goaltender and beat him with a backhand shot, giving the Pics the overtime win.
Ben Zaranek picked up the win, stopping 17 out of 19 shots.
