The Pics defeated the Junior Bruins 5 - 2 Friday night on the road. The Pics opened up the scoring early in the 1st period as Higgins was able to deposit the puck past the Bruins goaltender. Dubey and Fox were credited with the assists.

The Bruins were able to even it up a minute later, but just five minutes later Humphrey was able to regain the lead for the Pics after diving after a loose puck in the slot to make it 2 - 1.

Rudolf was able to make it 3 - 1 in the waining minutes of the 1st period on the breakaway and deposited the puck top shelf.

Zanin was able to seal the deal after the Bruins got a goal in the 2nd period, making it 4 - 2.

Dubey got an empty net goal in the final minutes of the 3rd period making it 5 - 2.

Jack Messing got his first junior win, stopping 39 out of 41 shots.

The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of 2019-2020 season player Brenden Meyer to the Penn State University ACHA D2 team. Brenden has played with the Pics for his entire teenage career, playing up at the U16 level at the age of 13. He is a member of the 100-point club.

“I really have a lot to be thankful for. I am first, thankful for the overall structure of the Pics organization. I came in at 14 to play U16 under the Sarno’s, and that’s where I got to see my creative side of the game flourish. For u18 under Coach Bonneau, I was allowed to implement my creativity with the hard work style of Bonneau, and it got me the exposure I needed being selected to the league All-Stars. The jump to Premier, as an 18-year-old high school senior, forced me to make the right decision more often and faster if I wanted to see the ice due to how competitive the league was, but also how competitive it was to be put on the game sheet. The drive and attention to detail the Pics instilled upon me was a huge factor on my ability to roster for Penn State this season.” Meyer said in a statement regarding his commitment.

Pics General Manager, Rob Bonneau was quoted at saying “I was extremely proud to hear Brenden made Penn State ACHA Team.  I had the opportunity to watch Brenden grow up in our program with stops at all levels we had to offer him. He always was extremely offensive for a defenseman, but it was his commitment to the defensive side of the puck was the reason he was able to move onto the next level. We wish Brenden the best of luck in the future.” 

Meyer had to compete against 70 new skaters from all levels of play during tryouts. He was selected amongst 12 new players, 4 defensemen, 6 forwards, and 2 goaltenders.

U15

It took an extra frame, but the U15 squad swept the Islanders over the weekend, taking the final game 2 - 1 with Russel Soja getting the winning goal with just over a minute remaining.

The Islanders opened up the game with a goal at the 11:26 mark of the 1st period on an unassisted goal from Patel.

The Pics answered back a period later on the power play with a goal from Jack Welch. Chase Stebbins was credited with the assist.

Soja then got the game winning goal when Chase Stebbins faked the wrap around attempt and passed it back to Soja who was sitting at the post to deposit the goal in the net.

The Pics got outshot 44 to 43, but were perfect on their power play. The Pics converted on only one of their five power plays.

The next home game is September 25th at 6pm

U16

The U16 crew defeated the Central Connecticut Capitals 7 - 0 on Sunday night. Aiden Pisano put the Pics on the board with just over 7 minutes to go in the first, with assists from Johnny Blase and Chris Calvanese.

Coleson Hanaran added to the frenzy just three minutes later to make it 2 - 0 while on the power play. Aiden Pisano and Aiden Barbee were credited with the assists.

Ben Gisonni got a power play goal as well making it 3 - 0 at the half way point of the 2nd period with an assist from Pisano.

Chris Calvanese got his first of the game with just 24 seconds remaining in the 2nd with a feed from Hanaran to make it 4 - 0.

Luke Haynes got his first goal as a Pic just under two minutes into the 3rd period with an assist from Igor Shaev to make it 5 - 0.

Devin Niles got his first goal as a Pic to make it 6 - 0 just a minute later with assists from Cam Raifstanger and Hunter Stockseth.

Igor Shaev got his first as a Pic with just under two minutes remaining to close the scoring out at 7 - 0.

U15

The U15 squad captured their first home victory of the season in an exhibition game 6 - 1 against an injury depleted Islanders Hockey Club Saturday afternoon in front of a friendly crowd that included players and fans of the Boston Hockey League, which was wrapping up semi-final action at the Olympia.

The Islanders struck first with just over five minutes remaining in the 1st period when Green was able to slip one past the goaltender. Russel Soja was able to capture his first Pics goal with just under a minute expired in the 2nd period. Chase Stebbins was credited with the assist.

Jared Ritter was able to notch a second one on the scoreboard for the Pics halfway into the 2nd period. Cole Davis was credited with the assist.

Davis added an insurance goal just a minute and a half into the 3rd period, with the assists being credited to Logan Carpenter and Chase Stebbins.

Cole Brandon slammed the door on IHC just two minutes later as he got a pass from Ben Daniels and deposited it between the pipes.

​The Pics added two more in the waning minutes of the game to make the final score 6 – 1. IHC outshot the Pics 31 – 30. The Pics killed off three out of four penalties, while IHC killed off two out of three penalties.

U16
Penalty killing was the name of the game, as the U16 squad offensively dominated against the U16 squad of the Islanders Hockey Club 6 – 1, as the Pics killed off all 8 penalties, and converted on 3 out of 5 of the IHC penalties.

Hunter Stockseth deposited the first Pics goal with just over three minutes remaining in the 1st period with an unassisted tally.

Coleson Hanrahan got the Pics first power play goal of the game just under a minute later with a feed from Ken Cartee and Pics newcomer Radzivika Bahdan.

Aiden Pisano deposited the puck between the pipes with just under two minutes expired in the 2nd period, when he got a feed from Chris Calvanese and Rob Trigilio to make it 3 – 0.

Hanrahan got his second of the game at the halfway point of regulation on the powerplay, notching his second power play goal with a feed from Aiden Barbee.

Hanrahan notched his first hat trick of the year at just under a minute expired in the 3rd period when he got the feed from Trigilio to make it 5 – 0.

The Islanders were able to spoil the shutout at the 13:57 mark of the 3rd period making it 5 – 1.

Trigilio was able to exact revenge just a minute and a half later, with a feed from Hanrahan making it 6 – 1.

U18/Elite

Nick Disanti notched his first hat trick of the season as the Elite/U18 squad dominated the Worcester Junior Railers 6 – 1 on Saturday night in exhibition action.

Disanti notched back-to-back goals, one just a minute and a half into regulation (which was a power play goal), and another just 4 minute later to make it 2 – 0. Chris Foster and Aiden Grabowski were credited with assists on the second goal.

Lucas Petone of the Railers spoiled the shutout midway through the 1st half with a feed from Drew Breen to make it 2 – 1.

Disanti exacted revenge just over a minute into the second half as he notched his hat trick with a feed from Foster to make it 3 – 1 as he slipped it past the goaltender.

Nickolas Starosielski made it 4 – 1 when he got a breakout feed from Nick Zanin.

Zack Fox notched is first goal of his Elite team career when he got the feed from Foster and Disanti to make it 5 – 1.

Foster made it 6 – 1 with a deposit with just under a minute remaining in regulation.

The Pics killed off all their penalties and were only able to convert on one of their power plays.

The Springfield Pics have released their Junior hockey season schedule for both their Premier and Elite squads. Both calendars are color coded with; showcase games in black, away games in blue, and home games in red. Games with TBD or no game time, have yet to have a game time determined based upon rink availability. All of our Premier games will be on HockeyTV. 

Director of Communications, and lead Play-By-Play broadcaster Eric Richardson said "With a return to normal schedule on slate this year, we plan on facing many more teams. Throughout the offseason, the USPHL and HockeyTV have been working on a few new tools to use at our disposal to create a higher quality broadcast. Many of those tools are ready to use, and a few are still in testing and hope to deploy them soon."
