The Pics and the Advantage battled back and forth, but the Pics were victorious in overtime, as the Pics won 4 - 3. Brad Cook opened up the scoring just one minute into regulation, with assists from Tommy Madden and Troy Pratt. Nick Foster returned the favor just over two minutes later when Andrii Ievtukhov launched it from the red line and deflected it into the net. Connor O'Brien was credited with the secondary assist. Sean Donoghue got the Pics second goal of the game when he got a quick shot from right in front of the net to make it 2 - 1. Conner Dalton and Ievtukhov were credited with the assists. The Advantage struck back twice to make it 3 - 2, Joe Berndt and Collin Costello got the goals, while Kodai Mizuno, Cook, Cameron Martin and Max Eckstein all got assists. Dalton got the game tying goal at the 7:37 mark of the 3rd period when he got the give and go pass and beat Jack Nowicki top glove side to make it 3 - 3. Carter Brunelle and Nick Foster were credited with assists. Corey McNally was able to get the game winning goal just a minute and a half into the overtime frame when he deflected a shot from Nick Foster. Dominick Balboni was credited with the assist as well. Advantage goaltender Jack Nowicki stopped 35 out of 39 shots in the loss, while Pics goaltender Jacob Brown stopped 20 out of 23 shots for the win.
The Pics met up with the Aviators and defeated them 7 – 1 on Sunday afternoon, to take 3 out of 4 games at the Hitmen showcase. Tyler Genovese opened up the scoring just five minutes into the game when he got a feed from Simon Higgins, and tried passing it to an open defensemen, but the puck hit Aviator’s goaltender Anthony Scocozza’s back and bounced across the goal line. Kevin Avery got credit for the secondary assist. Illia Solodzhuk got the only goal for the aviators ten minutes later. Devin Harrison and Evan Oginsky got the assists. Brigham Dubey got what would end up to be the game winning goal just three minutes into the second period when be brought the puck up the length of the ice and did what Genovese did to make it 2 – 1. Higgins and Aiden Grabowski got the assists. Genovese got his second, the Pics third goal of the game when he grabbed the rebound and deposited it in the back of the net. Braeden Humphrey and Higgins got the assists. Zack Fox got onto the scoresheet when he got the puck in through a scrum in front of the net to make it 4 – 1. Nick Disanti and Chris Foster got the assists. Disanti got his first goal of the game when he went top shelf against Scocozza through a mess of players to make it 5 – 1. Genovese and Higgins got the assists. Bryce St. Martin got credited for the 6th goal when Scocoza kicked it into his own net trying to block a shot. Humphrey and Liam Andersen were credited with the assists. Nick Zanin closed out the scoring frenzy when he knocked in the rebound from a shot. Dubey and Humphrey were credited with assists. Aviators goaltender Anthony Scocozza stopped 34 out of 41 shots in the loss, while Pics goaltender Noah Behrens-Gould stopped 15 out of 16 shots for the win.
The Rockets took off to a quick lead after one period, but the Pics caused a flameout and won 5 – 3 taking game three of the showcase. Nick Jervas and Max Toomey both scored goals in the first period, but the Pics struck back with three in a row of their own in the 2nd period. Tyler Genovese got the loose puck back in the defensive end and tossed it down in a clear attempt while on the penalty kill. Simon Higgins was able to get the puck and got a one-on-one chance with the defensemen and shot it at Rockets goaltender Nicolas Lagomarsino. Lagomarsino couldn’t get complete hold of the puck and it came out to Higgins who dished it out to Genovese who was able to beat a prone Lagomarsino. Nick Disanti tied up the game just under three minutes later when he caught the loose puck and deposited it top shelf off a set plan from a faceoff. Zack Fox and Brandon Shuman were credited with the assists. Fox got one of his own just 40 seconds later when he got the cross ice pass and beat two chasing defensemen on his right hand side and deposited it behind Lagomarsino on a cross net shot. Chris Foster and Kevin Avery were credited with the assists. Jervas got an unassisted goal to tie up the game at 3 a piece at the 17:25 mark of the 2nd period. Disanti got what would end up being the game winning goal in the waining minutes of the 2nd period when he got his own rebound and dragged it across the mouth of the net to get a better angle to make it 4 – 3. Fox and Foster were credited with assists. Foster got the empty net goal with just 26 seconds remaining to seal the game at 5 – 3. Lagomarsino stopped 26 out of 30 shots in the loss, while Pics goaltender Colin Sherwood stopped 18 out of 21 shots for the win.
The Pics fell to the Jersey Hitmen, 3 – 1 on Saturday morning, making their overall season record 2 – 1, and 1 – 1 at the Hitmen showcase. The Hitmen struck first with a goal at the 4:39 mark of the 1st period from Nicholas Cioce. Assisted from Matt DiCarlo and Austin Bailey. The Hitmen struck again at nearly the same time in the 2nd period, with a goal from Rocco Garcia, assisted from Cioce and Cochran on the power play. Nick Disanti got his first goal this season when he setup a tic-tac-toe play while on the power play. Disanti caught a feed from Bryce St. Martin and put it in through traffic to make it 2 – 1. Chris Foster got the secondary assist. Cioce then scored again at the 14:32 mark of the 2nd when he met up with Jack Vander Platt and Ruschmeier to make it 3 – 1. Matthew Carter kept it that way and the Hitmen defeated the Pics 3 – 1. Matthew Carter stopped 21 shots for the win, while Jack Messing stopped 37 out of 40 shots in the loss.
--Note, games at the Rockets showcase were playing with 3 17 minute periods-- Bridgewater, NJ – The Elite squad came back from being two down to win in overtime, 3 – 2 to take their first game of four at the Rockets showcase at the Bridgewater Ice Arena. Neither team scored in the first period, but the Whalers struck first with a goal from Kevin Spallin, which was unassisted. Liam Beattie made it a 2 – 0 game with an assist from Giuliano Fazio. The Pics power play unit then took over from there, as John Spallin was called for kneeing at the 15:50 mark of the 2nd period. Braeden Humphrey got the Pics on the board first just 11 seconds later when the puck got deflected onto him with a St. Martin shot from the blue line and into the net. Bryce St. Martin and Nick Disanti were both credited with assists. “I was in front of net looking back to see where goalie was turned around, and as St. Martin shot it, it hit me and went into the net. We started to celebrate and wanted to keep it going.” Humphrey was quoted after the game. Brandon Shuman was able to even up the score just a minute into the final frame while the Pics were on a 5 – 3 power play, courtesy of a 5-minute major for cross checking at the 17:45 mark of the 2nd period, then a 2-minute cross checking at the end of the 2nd period. The Pics won the faceoff, and dished the puck back to Shuman who was sitting at the blueline, and shot it past the Whalers goaltender. Tyler Genovese and Simon Higgins were credited with the assists. Higgins then was able to finalize the game halfway into the overtime frame as he got a feed from Genovese and went top shelf against Whalers goaltender Lucas Holland. Shuman was credited with the secondary assist. “We did not come out strong out of the gate and had to kick start halfway through game. We got one, and it opened up. The game should not have been so close, but it was. We came together as a team and got the character win. In overtime, we had to win faceoffs and knew we had to get puck to the net. Geno drew in two guys, which left me open and I took the shot and it went in. Shoot, pass, score just like the cone heads in miracle.” Pics forward Simon Higgins was asked after the game, reflecting on his team’s performance. Holland stopped 42 out of 45 shots in the loss, while Ray Picard was able to stop 21 out of 23 shots for the win.
Chris Beaudoin was asked for his thoughts of the game, and was quoted at saying “We were not playing very well, playing slow and individual. Trailing 1-0 going into half went in and told them we just need to get more pucks to net and play Pics hockey. Pucks In deep and get on them hard. We needed to move puck more as team. Came out gave up one early to go down 2-0 then he picked it up and played a little better. Higgins said it best it was another character win.” The Pics play the Jersey Hitmen at 10:20 AM tomorrow.

The Pics defeated the Cyclones 4 - 3 Saturday afternoon, notching their first win of the season. The Cyclones struck first early in the 1st period when Matt JaJoie was able to sneak it past Ray Picard to make it 1 - 0. Chase Burnell was credited with the assist. Braeden Humphrey was able to even up the score when Zack Fox went behind the goal and into the near corner, spun around and found Humphrey right in front of the net, and deposited it to make it 1- 1. Bryce St. Martin was credited with the secondary assist.
Burnell was able to make it 2 - 1 just 5 minutes later when he got it past Picard. Alexander Nisevich and Lajoie were credited with the assists.
Zack Fox was able to make it 2 - 2 as he was able to pick up the loose puck when it got away from Hayden Manning while on the power play. James Delaney and Brandon Shuman were credited with the assists.
Simon Higgins got the Pics the lead for good as he was able to get a breakaway chance and went top shelf glove side to make it 3 - 2. Tyler Genovese and Brigham Dubey got the assists.
Chris Foster was able to make it 4 - 2 when he was able to take the pass from Fox in a set play on the power play. Humphrey was credited with the secondary assist.
The Cyclones put one more on the board with 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd, but the Pics held strong in the 3rd period, not allowing any goals to be scored.
Picard stopped 33 out of 36 shots for the win, while Cyclones goaltender Manning stopped 29 out of 33 for the loss.
Marlborough, MA - The Premier squad picked up three out of four wins during the Boston Junior Bruins Shoot, defeating the Jersey Whalers 5 - 2 on Friday, falling to the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs on Saturday 5 - 3, defeating the Connecticut Junior Rangers 3 - 2 on Sunday morning, and defeated the Premier squad of their our NCDC Affiliate the Twin City Thunder, 3 - 1 on Sunday evening.
Pics vs Whalers box score -Editors note- Video is unavailable for most games due to streaming issues at the venue -- The Pics slammed the door on the Whalers late in the second half with three unanswered goals. Dominick Balboni scored first early in the game with an assist from Brock Baumann and Corey McNally. The Whalers then slipped one past Pics goaltender Nick Digiacomo to even up the score at 1 a piece. Baumann then returned the favor with assists from Balboni and McNally to make it 2 - 1. Max Boulin from the Whalers evened up the score making it 2 a piece later on in the 2nd half. Connor O'Brien then opened up the three goal rout on the power play with assists from Andrii Levtuhkov and McNally. Balboni scored a few minutes later with assists from Baumann and Nick Foster. Benjamin Goring closed the door on the Whalers in the waining minutes of the half with and assist from Levtuhkov and Shu Inamura. Digiacomo stopped 21 out of 23 shots for the win, while Whalers goaltender Justin Grenon stopped 36 out of 40 shots for the loss. Monarchs vs Pics Box Score The Pics fell to the Monarchs Saturday, 5 - 3. The Monarchs scored twice early to set the tone, but the Pics struck back just a minute after the Monarchs scored their second goal as the Pics were able to get the goal in while on the penalty kill. It was a back and forth battle, with each side scoring opposite goals, but in the end the Pics fell 5 - 3. Pics vs Connecticut Junior Rangers Box Score Two quick goals early in the first set the tone for the Pics as they defeated the Rangers 3 - 2 Sunday morning. Sean Donoghue netted his first goal when he was able to slip the puck between Rangers' goaltender Bryce Dunnigan's legs to make it 1 - 0
Baumann was able to get the puck in through traffic to make it 2 - 0 with an assist from McNally and O'Brien.
The Rangers struck back early in the 2nd half, but Connor Matthews was able to net the insurance goal at the half way point of the 2nd half.
The Rangers tried to swing momentum with a goal late in the 2nd half, but the Pics held tough to defeat the Rangers 3 - 2.
Pics vs Twin City box score McNally, Wilson, and O'Brien each scored goals, while Tullo had two assists and Carter Brunelle had one assist as the Pics defeated the Thunder to close out their weekend in Marborough. Digiacamo stopped 23 out of 24 shots for the win. The Pics scored all three of their goals while on the power play. |
