The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Pics goaltender Sam Zavelson to Central Michigan University, member of the ACHA, Division 2.
Zavelson played in 26 games over two seasons, averaging a 3.74 Goals Against Average, and a Save Percentage of .908. Zavelson also had two shutouts. His career record with the Pics was 13 wins, 7 regulation losses, and 4 overtime losses. General Manager and Premier squad Head Coach Rob Bonneau was quoted as saying, “Sam was a kid who just showed up at our tryouts we knew nothing him. He made such a great impression at the tryout we had to offer a spot. Sam had a great season where he led our Elite team to the Nationals and was rewarded with a roster spot on the Premier team the following season. Sam was a great teammate, and we wish him the best at Central Michigan.” Sam Zavelson, when asked for a quote provided the following statement “I am beyond thankful and overjoyed to have the opportunity to further my hockey playing career at the collegiate level at Central Michigan University. With the support and guidance of the strong Springfield PICS coaching staffs led by Coaches Bonneau, Collins, and Sarno’s as well as the excellent group of teammates around me these past two years I am honored to continue to play the sport I love and that has done so much in return for me through the years. I’d like to thank past coaches Petronella, Elkin, Byrne, Patten and more for helping me get to where I am today. I appreciate all they and, of course, my family have done in aiding my arrival here. I am looking forward to this upcoming season under Coach Boyle, as well as my future career at CMU. Fire up Chips!” College Placement coach John Sarno said “Sam Is a good athletic goalie who always gives the team a chance to win. We are very excited for him next season at Central Michigan, and they’re getting a good reliable recruit.” |
