West Springfield, MA (2.2021) The Springfield PICS are proud to announce that the 2000 born forward Oliver Cookson has committed to Fitchburg State University for the fall. A native of Sheffield, MA the 6’2 20-year-old Cookson has 15 goals and 21 assists in 39 season games. The Fitchburg State University Falcons play in the MASCAC under NCAA Division 3.
“Oliver is a 200-foot hockey player. He goes hard to the net and can create offensive opportunities in small areas. His tremendous work ethic and leadership will make him an excellent Falcon.” Fitchburg State University coach Dean Fuller said in a statement. “Oliver has done everything we have asked of him. He plays in all key situations for our team. He came to us after playing four seasons at Berkshire Academy for his final year of junior eligibility. Not only if Oliver our leading scorer, it’s what he does everyday that makes him a special player. We look forward to watch Oliver play the next four years at Fitchburg state with other Pics alumni.” Pics General Manager Rob Bonneau was quoted. College Development Coach John Sarno was quoted saying “Oliver is a well-rounded player with exceptionally good hockey IQ. He is strong on his feet and the puck. He is going to be an excellent addition to a very strong Fitchburg State hockey program” “I’m beyond grateful to continue my hockey career. This would not be possible without the sacrifices from many others. I want to thank my parents for always believing in me. I also want to thank all of my coaches who’ve shaped me into the player and person I’ve become. I would like to thank my teammates throughout the years for pushing me to be better and making the game special. Lastly, I would like to thank the Springfield Pics organization.
