Springfield PICS are proud to announce that forward James Delaney (’05) of Palmer, Massachusetts has committed to the American International College Men’s Hockey Program (NCAA Division II).
Delaney is a true AGE OUT of the Springfield PICS having played at every level the program offers from U15, U16, Elite, Premier and NCDC. James has worn the iconic PICS sweater in over 233 games over that time period. Primarily as a defender, James was also called on to play a big role as a defensive forward in the National Championship run in 2025. A total of 33 goals and 67 assists puts him at the 100 point mark as well. A true testament of vertical development within a club from Midgets to Juniors to NCAA hockey. When asked about his commitment, Delaney shared: This is an exciting moment for me, and I’m grateful for everyone who helped me get here. I wouldn’t be in this position without coaches who believed in me from the start—Coach Pat Moriarty and Coach Doug Hanscom at the Rifles set the foundation for my development and pushed me to grow as both a player and a person. I then spent seven years with the Springfield Pics program, surrounded by amazing coaches. Coach Vern, Coach Chris, and Coach Bono all played major roles in shaping my game, and I’m thankful for everything they invested in me. I also want to thank Coach Tabb for having the confidence in me to take this next step and giving me the opportunity to play for the Yellow Jackets. A bonus in all of this is getting to play with some incredible current and former teammates, and doing it at a rink I’ve called home most my life. It feels like things have come full circle, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. Springfield PICS GM and Head Coach Rob Bonneau added: James committing to AIC is bittersweet; it marks the end of an era for him as a Springfield Pic. When you watch a player grow up in the program, it feels like watching your own kid, and these were seven very important years in a young man’s life. James played at every level the Springfield Pics offer, and it was great to see him earn his commitment to AIC. I wish him nothing but the best and look forward to watching him play at AIC. |
