U18 and U16 playoff preview

The Springfield Pics U16 and U18 squads play this weekend at the friendly confines of the Olympia Ice Center in the USPHL Tournament.

The U16 squad tied their franchise best in the current era with 20 wins, 12 losses, 2 over time wins, 3 overtime losses, 1 shootout win, and 1 shootout loss. They had the 4th best penalty kill out of qualified teams, and tied for 3rd for the amount of power play goals at 20.

The U16 squad first face the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs at 1:30pm on Friday on rink 1. The Pics faced the Monarchs only once this season, falling to them 2-0.

The U16 squad then face the Islanders Hockey Club on Saturday at 11:40 am on rink 2. The Pics faced the Islanders one time, falling to them 9-3.

The Pics close out qualification for Sunday play at 9:10 pm on Saturday on rink 3, against the South Shore Kings. The Pics faced the Kings twice, splitting the series against them by one goal each time.

The U18 squad ended the season with the most amount of wins since joining the USPHL at 18. Their total season record was 18 win, 10 losses, 3 overtime wins, 3 overtime losses, and one shoot out loss. They posted the 4th best penalty kill out of qualified teams, and had the most amount of power play goals at 24.

The U18 squad open up the qualification round of play at 8am on Friday, on rink 1 against the PAL Junior Islanders. The Pics only faced the Islanders once in the season, defeating them 5-1.
