CICERO, New York—The Springfield Pics 16U squad took a 5-4 overtime victory over the Syracuse Stars, thanks in large part to three-point nights by Spencer Korona and Cameron Croteau.
After a scoreless first period, the Pics jumped on the board first as Croteau finished a pass from Brenden Meyer on the power play at 5:59. Croteau’s fifth of the year was also assisted by Korona, who scored his own man-up marker at 7:54 to give Springfield a 2-0 lead with assists from Kyle Nelson and Mark Mcclure on Korona’s third of the season.
The Stars rebounded, however, as Brock Finn notched a goal at 8:28 to bring the hosts within one; Mcclure would score a power play goal of his own from Korona and Croteau at 13:23, but once again the Stars would cut into the lead as Killian Rowlee tallied at 15:16 to make it 3-2 Springfield after two.
Brock Baumann opened the third with a goal for Springfield at 2:50, on assists by Pavel Karasek and Kyle Jarosz, only to see Trevor Bollinger score twice, at 7:03 and 14:39, to tie the game 4-4 through regulation.
Croteau was not done, however, and he ended things in Springfield’s favor with his second of the night and team-best sixth in three USPHL games, with Karasek and Brenden Meyer assisting.
Addison Lawrence earned the win, making 35 saves in the victory; Tripp Clarke took the loss, stopping 32 shots.
The two teams battle again on Sunday, October 22 at 9:30 a.m.
