HUDSON, New Hampshire—Both the Springfield Pics Premier and Elite teams split in USPHL action at the Cyclones Showcase on Sunday, October 8, with the Premier team winning 6-3 over the New York Aviators before falling 4-2 to the host Northern Cyclones, and the Elite team falling 4-3 in OT to the Hartford Junior Wolf Pack before winning by the same score over the Syracuse Stars.

The Premier matchup against the Aviators was dominated by Alex Peresunko. He scored five times for the Pics, who scored a power play and an even-strength tally in the first half of the game, and then had three in the second half, with a shorthanded goal, another even-strength marker, and a shorthanded empty-net goal. Brett Geoffroy and Grant DeWitt each had two assists in the win, while Mike Wilson had the other Springfield goal. Blake Carlson made 34 saves.

However, despite Peresunko adding a goal and an assist against the host Cyclones, Springfield dropped the finale of the weekend. Jake Conrad opened the scoring for the Pics, but the Cyclones scored the final two goals of the first and the first two of the second before Peresunko struck on the power play late in the frame. The Pics outshot the Cyclones 28-27, and Sawyer Schmidt made 23 saves in the loss.

On the Elite side, the Pics jumped to an early 2-0 lead, thanks in part to a Vinny Orlandi goal. However, the Wolf Pack scored three straight, with two goals in the second coming just :52 apart, to put the Pics down 3-2. Springfield responded, as Nic Freniere tied the game only eight seconds later, and that score held through overtime. Unfortunately for the Pics, it was the Wolf Pack who came away with the goal in the extra time, as Montagne scored at 0:57 of the extra session.

Against Syracuse, Springfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Luke Jodoin netted a natural hat trick, scoring in the first for a 1-0 lead and adding a pair of power-play tallies in the second to put the Pics up 3-0. However, the Stars stormed back, evening it up at 3-3 with three tallies in 3:40. That sent the game to OT, where Nate Champane was the hero at 1:49, giving Tanner Ames, who made 17 saves, the win.

The Pics Premier team will next host the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs on Friday, October 13 at 8:00 PM for the first of two against their Granite State rivals at the Olympia, while the Elite team visits the Boston Bandits for two beginning on Saturday, October 14 at 2:45 PM in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
