HUDSON, New Hampshire—The Springfield Pics Premier squad overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win 5-3 over the Syracuse Stars as part of the Cyclones Showcase on October 7.
The Stars opened the scoring at 12:07 on an Aaron Jones goal, and then potted another at 18:44, but Alex Won popped home his second of the year at 19:17 to cut the deficit to 2-1.
That goal was critical, as it set the tone for the comeback to be completed with captain Grant DeWitt’s power play marker at 1:22 of the second, his first of the season, assisted by Alex Peresunko and Luke James.
The Stars would regain the lead at 10:09 of the half, but the rest of the frame was Springfield’s. Mike Wilson drew the Pics level once more with a goal at 14:16, his second in as many games, on an assist by Ethan Cervonayco.
Then, with under half a minute to play, Peresunko struck again, burying his team-high ninth of the year at 24:38. DeWitt would add an empty netter at 24:58 to seal the deal for the 5-3 final.
Blake Carlson made 22 saves in the win, improving to 3-2-0 as his team outshot the Stars 30-25.
The Pics next battle the New York Aviators and the host Northern Cyclones on October 8 at 12:00 and 6:00 p.m. respectively.
Congrats to former Pics coach Pat Tabb and the AIC Yellow Jackets on their upset win tonight!
