Elite championship in-depth preview

The Pics have learned their field for the Elite Championships. They will face the Jersey Hitmen, the Charleston Colonials, and defending champion Richmond Generals. The Pics have history with two of those three teams this history, regularly facing the Jersey Hitmen.

Richmond Generals – March 12th, 8:30pm, Gallant Arena

Record against the Generals (Did not face)

The Generals won their spot into the Playoffs by defeating the Hampton Road Whalers 3 – 0 on the 29th, and then going the distance on Sunday the 1st when they won in double overtime 4 – 3.

Jersey Hitmen – March 13th, 3:30pm – Gallant Arena

Record against the Hitmen (4-1)

The Pics have had a lengthy history against the Hitmen this season, with all the games being close, all within a two-goal differential. The Pics have won the last two times they have faced the Hitmen, 5 – 3 on January 26th at the Olympia, then 2 – 1 on February 15th at the final Elite showcase.

Charleston Colonials – March 14th, 10:30 am, Gallant Arena

Record against the Colonials (2-0)

The Pics defeated the Colonials both times they faced each other. The Pics first faced the Colonials on November 18th and defeated them 5 – 2 . The Pics opened up with four unanswered goals when Luc Fricchione, Andrii Levtukhov, Carter Brunelle and Paud O’Brien all struck first to throw momentum in way of the Pics. Matthew Yankavich stood tall and stopped 16 out of 18 shots.

The Pics then faced the Colonials again on January 5th and defeated them 6 – 2. Connor O’Brien notched up the natural hat trick in the win as the Pics scored 6 unanswered goals after the Colonials struck first just 3:38 into the frame. Yankavich stood tall again stopping 36 out of 38 shots in the win.
