Pics go a combined 4 - 2 on the weekend in league action

U16

The U16 squad went 2 – 1 in showcase action, defeating the Aviators 5 – 2 on Friday night, taking one away from the Rockets Hockey Club – Grey on Saturday night 6 – 1, and dropping a close one to the Jersey Shore Whalers – Premier 4 – 3 in what might be a semi-final preview.

Friday Night

Carter Hanrahan and Matus Hadusovsky both contributed to their league-leading scoring as the Pics U16 squad defeated the Aviators.

The Aviators opened up the game scoring just 5 minutes into the first frame. Robert Angerome was credited with the goal.

Matus Hadusovsky tied the game up just 4 minutes later while on the power play. Mike Penna and Dominick Balboni were credited with the assists.

Carter Hanrahan got his first of the game just 4 minutes later. Ryan Taulien and Jan Hunor were credited with the assists.

Jan Hunor then got what would be the game-winning goal just before the halfway point of the game. Dominick Balboni and Carter Hanrahan were credited with the assists.

Elan Gan of the Aviators got their second and last goal of the game just before the 10-minute mark of the 2nd. Justin Franks and Roman Stoliar were credited with the assists.

Carter Hanrahan got the insurance goal with just under 2 minutes left in the 2nd. Ryan Raulien and Dominick Balboni were credited with the assists.

Matus Hadusovsky got the last goal of the game just 2 minutes into the final frame. Tony Wonzy and Mike Penna were credited with the assists.

Tyler Cortis stopped 12 out of 14 shots he faced for the win, while Mattingy Siegel stopped 24 out of 29 shots for the loss.

Saturday

The Pics defeated the Junior Rockets 6 – 1 in a true team effort.

Jan Hunor opened up the scoring frenzy early in the 1st. Ryan Taulien and Matus Hadusovsky were credited with the assists.

He scored again with just 3 minutes remaining in the 1st. Dominick Balboni and Taulien were credited with the assists.

Carter Hanrahan scored two times in a row in the 2nd period, first a little over a minute into the frame, and again just 5 minutes later. Seth Chernik and Balboni were credited with the assists on the first goal and Taulien and Balboni on the 2nd.

Matus Hadusovsky scored just 4 minutes later. Hunter Gutshall and Mike Penna were credited with the assists.

Carter Hanrahan achieved the hat trick, his sixth of the season scoring with just under 3 minutes remaining in the 2nd. Gutshall and Hadusovsky got the assists.

Robert Allport spoiled the shutout midway through the 3rd. Logan Ponik and Jonathan Hutorsky got the assists.

Sunday

The Jersey Shore Whalers, scored three times in the 2nd, swinging the momentum their way defeating the Pics 4 – 3, making the race for 1st in the league nearly mathematically out of reach.

Mike Penna opened up the scoring just 2 minutes into the 1st period. Dominick Balboni and Ryan Taulien were credited with the assists.

Mike French got the 2nd goal of the game midway through the 1st period. Penna and Rihards Purgalis were credited with the assists.

The Whalers scored three times in the 2nd. Tyler Guttormsen scored just 2 minutes into the frame, with Chris Dineen and Garrett Kettyle credited with the assists. George Hinds got the 2nd goal, with Brock Forrest and Patrick Demarinis getting the assists. Forrest got the 3rd goal, with Demarinis and Dylan Stein getting the assists.

Jan Hunor tied it up just past the halfway point of the 3rd period. Dominick Balboni got the assist.

Justin Lidondici for the Whalers got the game-winning goal with just under a minute remaining. George Hinds and Brenden Kearney got the assists.

Trey Mattern stopped 18 out of 21 shots, while Tyler Cortis (ND) and Andrej Julinek (L) split the action. Cortis stopped 22 out of 24 shots, while Julinek stopped 13 out of 15.

ELITE

The Elite squad split against the Jersey Hitmen, dropping a close one 5 – 4 on Saturday, but nearly swapping the scores on Sunday, winning 5 – 3.

Saturday

Tyler Botta from the Hitmen struck first 6 minutes into the 1st off a deflection. Liam Egan and Ryan Patton got the assists.

Gavin Rock enacted revenge on a tic-tac-toe play when Noah Palmer caused a turnover in the Hitmen defensive end, and passed it off to Timofey Basarab. Basarab noted that the goaltender committed to him making a point-blank shot and dished it off to Rock for the one-timer.

James Sandberg got the 2nd goal of the game for the Hitmen just past the halfway point of the 1st. Jacob Jureidini got the assist.

Tyler Botta got the 3rd goal for the Hitmen, his second of the night with under a minute remaining in the 1st. Joseph Koons and Liam Hefferman got the assists.

Tyler Botta got the hat trick when he scored the only goal of the 2nd period with under a minute remaining in that frame. Liam Hefferman got the assists.

Luc Fricchione started the rally in the 3rd at the 8:30 mark when he got the long pass from Filip Mester and brought it down, put it between a Hitmen defender and deposited it in the back of the net. Basarab got the secondary assist.

Ethan Bliss then put it in the back of the net with just under 3 minutes to go when he and Andrii Levtukhov went down on a 2 on 1 breakaway with a couple of Hitmen chasing. Mester got the secondary assist.

Dom Ingham then tied the game up exactly a minute later when he noticed the loose puck off a series of deflections and put it in the back of the net. Mester and Basarab got the assists.

Liam Egan got the game-winning goal for the Hitmen just 20 seconds later off his rebound.

Sam Zavelson stopped 14 out of 17 shots for the no-decision, while Elijah Rapaport stopped 13 out of 15 shots for the loss. Dane Beltramini stood on his head and stopped 52 out of 56 shots for the win.

Sunday

Paud O’Brien opened up the scoring in the waning seconds of the 1st period when he deposited a soft shot, via Noah Palmer and Derek Boutin.

Carter Brunelle then got the Pics’ second goal almost 7 minutes into the 2nd period while on the powerplay. Andrii Levtukhov and Luc Fricchione were credited with the assists.

Aleksis Burkits then scored with halfway remaining in the 2nd period off a short-handed attempt. Connor O’Brien and Noah Palmer were credited with the assists.

Hunter Dodds scored what would be the game-winning goal at the 8-minute mark of the 3rd when his shot squeaked through the legs of the Hitmen goaltender. Sean Ferus and Zach Shupe were credited with the assists.

Liam Egan then scored twice in a row to try and swing momentum in the way of this Hitmen. His first goal was just 20 seconds after the Dodds goal, with Tyler Botta and Ryan Andrews assisting, and his second goal just two minutes later was unassisted.

Gavin Rock then set himself upon the post and deposited the Pics 5th goal of the game when he received the pass from Carter Brunelle. Rasmus Persson got the secondary assist.

Michael Bagi tried restarting the rally when he scored with just 5 minutes remaining. Evan Granier got the assist.

Cameron Schnopp stopped 28 out of 31 shots for the win, while Nick Johansson stood on his head and stopped 56 out of 61 shots.

PREMIER

The Pics defeated the Nighthawks 12 – 1 in a balanced attack, which caused nearly everyone to be on the scorecard. Cam Gaylor lead the attack with 4 points, and Lukas Radina, Julian Perino, and Brenden Meyer all scored two goals. Matthew Kowal, Devids Jurinenokj, Owen Stacey, and Max Moriarty all got goals as well.
