The Springfield Pics were a perfect 3 for 3 in Friday action at the Islander’s Hockey Club showcase.
Special teams were the name of the game in today’s action.
The Elite squad started their day early against the Tampa Bay Juniors, and were victorious 6-2. The Pics scored while killing off penalties four times, setting a club record.
Tampa Bay got on the board in the second period with a goal from Adam Custable. Andrew Lewis was credited with the assist.
Carter Brunelle got the 3rd goal for the Pics in the 3rd period, also on the shorthand. Connor O’Brien and Paud O’Brien were credited with the assists.
Pelky got his second goal of the game, also on the shorthand. Andrii Yevtukhov and Carter Brunelle were credited with the assists.
Tampa got one more on the board in the waning minutes of regulation. Matthew Menkhaus was credited with the goal, while Adam Custable and Andrew Lewis were credited with the assists.
Connor O’Brien got the final goal for the Pics, also on the shorthand. Luc Fricchione and Aleksis Burkits were credited with the assists.
Elijah Rapaport was credited with the win for the Pics.
Pics vs Carolina Jr Canes
In what was to be the early season, must-see matchup, the Pics dominated the game throughout the matchup.
It was a back and forth matchup, with both clubs being scoreless through two periods, but the Pics proved to be deadly on the shorthand in the afternoon matchup when Andrii Yevtukov picked the pocket of a Canes defensemen and brought the puck in closer and deposited it in the back of the net. Aleksis Burkits and Louis Pelland.
Yevtukhov got his second goal, this time on the power play from his knees. Yevtukhov received a pass from Pelky when he was behind the net. Brunelle was credited with the assist.
Burkits added his name to the scoresheet while the Pics were on the power play at the 14:33 mark of the 3rd. Burkits put the puck in the back of the net through traffic. Pelland and Ferus were credited with the assists.
Carolina spoiled the shutout with a little under three minutes remaining. Connor Fields was credited with the goal, with Daniel Nau and Peter Giambattista were credited with the assists.
Cameron Schnopp was credited with the win, stopping 17 out of 18 shots, while Shane Gullie of the Canes was credited with the loss, stopping 23 out of 26.
The Pics dominated the Potomac Patriots 9-1 on Friday afternoon.
