Pics squads split weekend games

The Springfield Pics Premier squad split the weekend series of games, defeating the Connecticut Nighthawks 7-1 on Saturday, and losing a hard-fought battle against the Boston Bandits 5-2 on Sunday.

-Saturday Night

The Pics took advantage of a shortened bench of the Nighthawks and opened up the scoring seven minutes into the game with a goal from Owen Stacey that squeaked past Nighthawks goaltender Jacob Zomick while on the powerplay. Brock Baumann and Chase Reynolds got credit for the assists. Three minutes later Matthew Kowal knocked one in off the rebound. Brock Baumann and Devids Jurinenokj got the assists.

The Nighthawks put their only goal on the board just about two minutes into the 2nd period as Evan Valenti put one past Pics goaltender Adam Faust. Quinn Sandor got credited with the assist. Ethan Bliss got the goal on back just under a minute later when he put one past Zomick. Brandon Derdiger and Dom Ingham got the assists.

Matthew Kowal got his second of the game just two minutes into the 3rd period. Baumann and Reynolds got the assists. Brenden Meyer put his name in the scorebook at about the 7-minute mark of the third period. Rasmus Persson and Derdiger got the assists. Max Moriarty then added his name just three minutes later while on the power play. Lukas Radina and Jurinenokj got the assists. Josh Bliss closed out the scoring frenzy at the 12-minute mark of the third period. Radina and Julian Perino got the assists. Faust stopped 31 out of 32 shots, while Zomick stopped 53 out of 60 shots.

-Sunday Night

Patrick Graham opened up the scoring early in the frame as he got a redirect from Yegor Titovets which beat Matthew Jonas. Matthew Ernst got credited with the assist. Max Moriarty got the Pics on the board with 8 minutes left in the 1st period while on the power play. Lukas Radina took a shot from the faceoff dot and it rebounded and Moriarty put it in the back of the net. Julian Perino got credited with the secondary assist.

Matthew Ernst returned the favor just two minutes into the second period, while on the power play. Titovets and Patrick Graham got credited with the assists. Brian Schindler then got his name into the books at the 5:20 mark of the 2nd period. Tristan Glass and James Gagan got the assists. Graham then got a goal of his own not even two minutes later. Henry Andres got credited with the lone assist.

Tristian Glass then got a goal of his own at the 4:49 mark of the 3rd period. Ernst and Schindler got the assists. Lukas Radina then got one for this Pics at the 12:22 mark of the 3rd to try and get a rally started. Devids Jurinenokj and Josh Bliss got credited with the assists. Austin Strom stopped 19 out of 21 shots for the win, while Matthew Jonas stopped 19 out of 24 shots for the loss.


The Pics Elite squad split their weekend games with a 4-2 win against the Northern Cyclones, and a 5-2 loss against the Boston Bandits.


The Pics and Cyclones were scoreless through two periods. Paud O’Brien got the rebound opportunity after the shot from Matus Hadusovsky made a strange hop and Paud was able to take the shot, which rebounded off the goaltenders back and into the back of the net. Noah Palmer got the secondary assist. 

Connor O’Brien was then able to make it a 2-0 game less than a minute later when he caught a feed pass from Andrii Yevtukhov as he was breaking up the ice and beat the goaltender glove side on ice level. Aleksis Burkits got the secondary assist.

About three minutes later Eric Chalifoux was able to break the shutout when he was able to beat Zavelson. Grady Fagan got credited with the assist. Dmytro Shmidt made it a brand new hockey game about two minutes later. Dylan McGill and Marc Giodano got the assists.

Matus Hadusovsky got the game-winning goal at the 16:51 mark when he brought the puck down 200 feet off a shot attempt and went through all the defenders in a set play and beat the goaltender stick side. Luc Fricchione and Louis Pelland got the assists.

Connor O’Brien then sealed the deal with the empty-net goal at the 19:05 mark of the 3rd. Dylan Sheets got 46 out of 49 saves for the loss, and Sam Zavelson stopped 42 out of 44 shots for the win.


The Pics dropped a hard-fought battle against the Bandits. Lazarus Ritter got the puck in the back of the net off a redirect from Jackson Hansen at the 2:36 mark of the 1st period. Robert Byrne got the secondary assist. Adam Lindahl got on the breakaway and was able to beat the goaltender. Sean Ferus and Luc Fricchione got the assists. Adam Mazurowski was able to get a trickle through goal at about the halfway point of the 1st period. Dylan Hernandez-Ramirez was credited with the lone assist. 

Teagan Stringfellow got one in past a screen at the 5:41 mark of the 2nd. Jaxson Brown and Kevin Arndt got credited with the assists. Lazarus Ritter then got one of his own on the board at the 17:15 mark of the 2nd. John Hurd got credited with the assist.

Andrii Yevtukhov made it a three-goal game when shot was rebounded off the stick of a Bandits player and went in. Matus Hadusovsky and Luc Fricchione got the assists. Jaxson Brown got the last goal of the game for the Bandits at the 17:49 mark of the 3rd period. Bandits goaltender Chris McElroy stopped 17 out of 19 shots for the win, while Pics goaltender Matthew Yankavich stopped 17 out of 22 for the loss.
