GAME SUMMARY

The Springfield Pics Premier squad had to go the distance, and then some, to defeat the Connecticut Junior Rangers in a Wednesday afternoon matinee game, 5-4 in the shootout.

Egor Khomyakov got the first goal of the game at the 6:08 mark of the first for the Rangers off a rebound from Drew Lawrence’s shot with numerous players in front of the net. Eugene Govorushko got the secondary assist. Joe Caputo continued the scoring for the Rangers just about six minutes later when it got into the net off a deflection off of Uri Lurie. Alexander Dube had the original shot and got credited with the secondary assist.

Josh Bliss got the Pics on the board just 17 seconds into the 2nd period from a set play off a faceoff in the offensive zone. Chase Reynolds won the faceoff and dished it to Noe Turdjmann who dropped a short pass to Josh Bliss who one-timed it past Rangers goaltender Jack Walsh.

Pics leading scorer Lukas Radina tied the game at the halfway point of the 2nd period on a slapshot one-timer from Josh Bliss while on the powerplay. Julian Perino got the credit for the secondary assist.

Uri Lurie put the Rangers back on top in the waning minutes of the 2nd period on a breakaway as the trailing man, who got the feed from Jake Roberts. Victor Nikonov got the secondary assist.

Julian Perino evened up the game at the 12:10 mark of the 3rd period. Brandon Derdiger grabbed the puck off a failed clear attempt and passed it off to Perino who took advantage of Walsh playing out of his net and popped the water bottle. Max Moriarty got the secondary assist.

Perino then put the Pics in the lead for the first time in the game with under 5 minutes to go in regulation. Radina grabbed the failed clear attempt and repeated what Derdiger did the goal before. Max Moriarty got the secondary assist.

Chris Morrison evened up the score just over a minute later off a rebound off of Pratt and put it in the back of the net.  Robert and Lurie got the assists.

Neither team could end it in overtime, but all it took was one goal in the shootout to end it, in favor of the Pics. Brock Baumann brought the puck in slowly and beat the goaltender to extend the Pics’ winning streak to a league-leading nine games.

The Pics will face the Connecticut Nighthawks on Saturday, and the Boston Bandits on Sunday to close out the road trip. The Pics return to the Olympia on November 3rd for the back end of a home and home against the Bandits.
