Pics are on a 3 game winning streak

Springfield Pics swept the three-game series Boston Junior Bruins with a 95% save percentage from goaltender Sam Zavelson.

On Saturday night, the Pics held the Bruins to a 5-0 victory. Luc Fricchione opened up the scoring frenzy at the 10:10 mark of the 1st period. Paud O’Brien and Aleksis Burkits got the assists.

Casey Sturgeon then notched another one just two minutes later. Derek Boutin and Kade Bacon were credited with the assists.

Just one minute into the 2nd period, Paud O’Brien notched one of his own. Luc Fricchione and Casey Sturgeon got the assists for the power-play goal.

Just under three minutes later Casey Sturgeon got his second of the night. Rihards Purgailis and Hunter Dodds were credited with the assists.

Gavin Rock got his first one of the game for the final goal of the game at the 13:38 mark of the 3rd period. Derek Boutin and Andrii Yevtukhov got the assists.

Zavelson stopped all 37 shots he faced.

The Pics continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon. The Bruins were the first one to notch a goal on the board on an unassisted goal from Luke Conti.

The Pics then grabbed one on back just 40 seconds later off a face-off. Connor O’Brien made the diving shot after losing his edge and put it past Connor Schultz. Derek Boutin and Gavin Rock got the assists.

Just two minutes later Adam Lindahl put his name into the scoring column off a feed from Rihards Purgailis that missed the net but landed on the netting attached to the goal. Purgailis knocked it off and fed it to a waiting Purgailis. Hunter Dodds got credited with the assist.

Max Moriarty got a shorthanded goal, the only goal of the 2nd period, at the 1:43 mark. Moriarty got the pass from Pelky, banked it off the boards to get around his defender and went coast-to-coast on the goaltender to put one in stick-side.

Paud O’Brien notched one in at the 7:08 mark of the 3rd off a rebound from Connor O’Brien who did a drop pass to Luc Fricchione, who fed it back to Connor O’Brien. Connor tried putting it in the net but was stopped, but Paud picked up the rebound and put it home.

Connor Juhasz put the Bruins’ second of the night on the board, unassisted at the 10:19 mark of the 3rd.

Derek Boutin returned the favor at the 15:53 mark getting the dribbler of a rebound from Connor O’Brien. Gavin Rock got the secondary assist.

Luc Fricchione got the final goal of the game with two minutes remaining on a breakaway and put it in stick-side. Paud O’Brien and Hunter Dodds got the assists.

Zavelson stopped 19 out of 21 shots, while Schultz faced a staggering 49 shots.

The Pics Elite squad go on a four-game road trip to the Cyclones Arena, starting on October 12th, and won’t return to the friendly confines of the Olympia until October 19th.
