Premier team sweeps Philadelphia Hockey Club

The Springfield Pics swept the Philadelphia Hockey Club in Friday night – Saturday afternoon action

The Pics defeated the Philadelphia Hockey club 4-2 in late action Friday night and repeated the action 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.


In Friday night action, Casey Sturgeon got the action going at 5 minutes remaining of the 1st period. Sturgeon grabbed a puck that was attempted to be cleared out of the defensive zone. He put it down on the ice and one-timed it on in. Cam Pelkey and Brandon Derdiger got credited with the assists.

Chase Reynolds got the second goal of the night at the 16:18 mark of the 2nd period after catching a tape to tape feed from Noe Turdjmann, who got fed from Joe Bouchard of a breakaway down the ice.

Max Moriarty got the deflection on the 3rd goal of the night off a shot attempt from Brenden Meyer at the 11:25 mark of the 2nd. Lukas Radina got the secondary assist.

Lukas Radina then got the last goal of the night for the Pics off a face-off in which he won, and got this own shot attempt. Max Moriarty and Julian Perino got the assists from the play before that caused the stoppage. This goal was in the final seconds of a power play.

Philadelphia then got two in the 3rd period. Dawson Simek got their first at the 9:04 mark on a dragging shot from a feed from Cody Wilson. Halen Cookston then got their second at the 4:11 mark. Philadelphia did pull their goaltender with under two minutes to go to no avail.


Action then continued on Saturday afternoon. Max Moriarty started the night at the 15:04 mark of the 1st period off a tic-tac-toe power-play setup in which he got the rebound. Josh Bliss and Lukas Radina got the assists on the power-play goal.

Philadelphia then got one back on the board at the 5:24 mark of the 2nd period. Frank Errig squeaked one by Pratt off a feed from Devante Dixon and Markus Odermatt.

The Pics then got one back and more. Max Moriarty got what would be the game-winning goal at the 1:39 mark of the 2nd squeezing a deflection into the net. Nico Rodrigues and Ryan Moorhouse got the assists.

Lukas Radina then got the insurance goal, on the penalty kill at the 16:16 mark of the 3rd after he stole it from a Philadelphia defensemen trying to keep the puck in the zone. Radina dragged the puck down and went cross net to make it 3-1.

Trent Pratt got the win on 33 saves on 34 shots, and Mat Bidini got the loss with 34 saves on 37 shots.

The Premier team plays the South Shore Kings in the 3rd game of their 5 game home stand next on Saturday, October 12th.
