Ten unanswered goals key, Andrii Yevtukhov gets first career hat trick as a Springfield Pic

GAME SUMMARY

The Springfield Pics put up 10 unanswered goals to defeat the Northern Cyclones Elite club 10-3 Sunday afternoon in front of a good-sized crowd at the Olympia Ice Center.

The Cyclones put up three goals within the first 12 minutes of the game, causing former Cyclones goaltender Roman Shiryaev to signal to Coach Sarno to put alternate goaltender Ryan Solomon into net, which paid dividends.

Ben Sherman got the first goal for the Cyclones at the 5:12 mark of the 1st period. Drew Zielinski and Crawford Tucker got credited with the assists.

Not five minutes later and Billy Dougherty got the second goal for the Cyclones. Austin Larson and Nicholas Grasso got the assists.

Crawford Tucker put in the last goal of the night for the Cyclones less than two minutes later. Ben Sherman and Billy Doughterty got the assists.

The Pics then opened up with a scoring frenzy, ten unanswered goals. Matus Hadusovsky opened up the Pics turn of scoring goals with just over four minutes left to the 1st period. Ryan Taulien and Mike Penna got the assists. He then scored again, on the penalty kill due to a high sticking call on Seth Chernik. Carter Hanrahan and Dominick Balboni got the assists.

Andrii Yevtukhov then got his first career goal just two minutes into the 2nd period. Tony Wosny and Carter Hanrahan got the assists.

Jan Hunor then got the next goal, while the Pics were on the power play due to a hooking call on Ben Langer. Ryan Taulien and Andrii Yevtukhov got the assists. This forced the coach for the Cyclones to put Matt D’Ortona in net to attempt to slow down the Pics, to no avail.

Rihards Purgailis then scored two goals in a row, one at the 9:29 mark and another at the 15:52 mark of the 2nd, the latter being on the power play due to a penalty on Liam Hanna for tripping. Carter Hanrahan and Mike Penna got the assists on the first one, Hanrahan and Balboni on the second.

Andrii Yevtukhov put up his second of the afternoon while on the power play due to a penalty on Ben Langer for cross-checking. Balboni and Taulien got the assists.

Carter Hanrahan then got his name into the goal column midway through the 3rd while on the penalty kill. Hunor and Balboni got the assists.

Andrii Yevtukhov then got his third goal of the afternoon, on the power play, at the 10-minute mark of the 3rd. Taulien and Landon Kinnear got the assists.

Jan Hunor then closed out the scoring frenzy at the 13:18 mark of the 3rd. Balboni and Hanrahan got the assists.

Roman Shiryaev got 11 saves on 14 shots, and Ryan Solomon who got the win, saved all 28 shots he faced.

Aiden Weller saved 26 out of 30 shots in the loss. Matt D’Ortona saved 24 out of 30 shots.

The U16 Pics next league game is against the Islanders Hockey Club on Sunday, October 20th at 4:50 pm.
