The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Elite Team Goalie Ray Picard to ACHA Air Force Academy for the 2022-2023 season. Ray, who is originally from Portland, Connecticut, played for the Pics the past 3 seasons with U15’s, U16’s and Jr. Elite. Ray is part of the U16’s 2021 American League Championship and posted a league best SVS’s of .966%. When asked about Ray here is what the coaches had to say:
GM Rob Bonneau: “We are extremely proud of Raymond for his appointment to USAFA and grateful for the time he spent with the Pics as he carries on playing hockey with the Falcons in the ACHA.” Elite Coach Chris Beaudoin: “Ray is a great kid on and off the ice. He came to the rink ready to go, and was ready when his name was called…to include winning us a couple of big games during the elite season.” U16’s Coach John Sarno: “Ray is a good, reliable goalie who gives the team a chance to win, a very reliable person too. He was a big part of our U16’s 2nd league Championship team. We wish Ray a big congrats and best of luck.” The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Premier Player Corey McNally to NCAA Division III Anna Maria College for the 2022-2023 season. Corey who is originally from Minnesota played for the Premier team this past season with 39 games for the Pics. McNally was known as a 2 way forward bringing grit to the defense while also lighting the lamp 4 times to include 2 Power Play goals and a game winner as well as garnering 11 assists.
When GM Rob Bonneau was asked of Corey’s contributions this season here is what he had to say: “Corey is a very skilled offensive player who has the ability to score at the next level. The thing I liked about Corey this past season was his willingness to play our D-zone system. In order to play college hockey you must be willing to play defense. We wish Corey the best the next 4 seasons at Anna Maria college”. The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Premier Player Matt Tullo to Virginia Tech for the 2022-2023 season. Matt played for the Premier team for the past two seasons with 86 games for the Pics, lighting the lamp 21 times, and garnering 35 assists.
“Matt has been a very important part of the success of the team the last two seasons. He played in every role, power play and penalty kill. Matt came to practice everyday and worked hard. Matt was one of captains last year and his leadership will be missed. Virginia Tech is getting a power forward who is going to compete and make a difference from day 1. We wish Matt the best the next 4 seasons at Virginia Tech”; GM and Head Coach Rob Bonneau is quoted as saying. The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Premier Player Tyler Wilson to Framingham State University for the 2022-2023 season. Wilson played in 41 games for the Pics, lighting the lamp 18 times, and garnering 26 assists.
"Tyler is a player that makes a coach go to the rink every day. His attitude towards playing, and life, is contagious and will carry over the next four years at Framingham. Tyler is a player I was talking to for three seasons to come play for the Pics, and this season we we’re finally able to get him to the Pics family. Tyler from day one scored goals for this team and hasn’t stopped which is why he was the team's leading scorer this season. He also plays very good defense and both special teams. We wish Tyler the best the next four seasons at Framingham State and look forward to watching their team play." Pics Premier Head Coach and General Manager Rob Bonneau was quoted. John Sarno, College Placement Coach was quoted at saying "Tyler is a skilled hockey player who knows how to score goals and skates very well. He was our Premier squad's top goal scorer, and plays a complete game of hockey. Tyler will be a big impact next season at Framingham State next year and we're very excited for him and look forward to watching him at the next level." Tyler joins Joe Bouchard, and Brock Baumann in this year's incoming. He will play along side Pics alumni Jake Conrad, Ethan Cervonayco, and Blake Carlson. Rob Bonneau, General Manager and Pics Premier head coach was quoted “Joe is a team first guy who plays on the edge and is always there to help his teammates. He has great skills and can make the first outlet pass and plays very physical. We wish Joe the best the next four years at Framingham State.” John Sarno, College Placement Coach was quoted “Joe is going to bring some real tough defense to the Rams. A guy you can rely on defensively and as a teammate. Congrats Joe!” Bouchard has played in 98 games, with scoring 7 goals, and 34 assists. Joe will join Brock Baumann, along with Pics alumni Jake Conrad, Ethan Cervonayco, and Blake Carlson. The Pics wish Joe all the best in his collegiate career. The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Pics Premier goaltender Jake Brown to Lehigh University’s ACHA team.
“I had the chance to see Jake play three seasons ago when he was playing with the Connecticut Knighthawks under now current Elite head coach Chris Beaudoin where he made 60 saves in a single game. Jake is a great technical skilled goaltender who has made some key stops in route to big wins this season for us. We wish Jake the best as he continues off to college.” General Manager and Premier Head Coach Rob Bonneau was quoted. College Placement Advisor John Sarno was quoted as saying “Jake is a hard-working goalie, who gives his team a chance to win every game. I am excited for Jake as Lehigh is a great scholar school and he will get a first-class education as well as competitive hockey.” Jake as played in 9 games this season, and has a 3.56 Goals Against Average, with a save percentage of .881. He has a record of 5 wins and 4 losses. The Springfield Pics wish Jake all the best in his future endeavors. The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Brock Baumann to the Framingham State University Rams for next season.
Pics Premier Head Coach and General Manager Rob Bonneau was quoted “Brock has been with the Pics at every level we offer starting 7 years ago at u16. He has been a captain of the u16, u18, and Premier team over the years which shows his leadership. Brock plays in all situations for this team, both special team units, and when we ran into injuries on defense, he jumped back there. He is always doing what’s best for the team and will be missed, but Framingham State is getting a player that will have an impact the day he steps on campus. We wish Brock the best and look forward to watching his next four years.” John Sarno, U16 and College Placement coach was quoted “Brock played for me on our u16 team. He was a team captain, and all-around player and leader a guy you can rely on. He is going to be an impact player next season at Framingham State. Baumann currently has a Pics career record of 171 games played, with 51 goals and 109 assists. Brock will be joining Pics alumni Jake Conrad, Ethan Cervonayco, and Blake Carlson who are currently playing for the Rams, who play in NCAA Division 3, Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Pics wish Brock the best in his collegiate career. The Springfield Pics are proud to announce the commitment of Nico Rodriguez to the University of Tampa Bay, members of the ACHA.
Rodriguez, a four-year veteran of the Pics has played a total of four seasons, starting from U16 on up to the Premier level. He has played 183 games, with 32 goals and 51 assists while being a member of the Pics. “Nico has been with the Pics the last 4 seasons and has gotten better each year. It will feel different going to the rink every day and not see Nico, as he brought a fun, hardworking attitude to the rink and cared about this team success. He will be missed next season, but we are extremely proud to be watching him the next four years at University of Tampa Bay. Nico has done everything we asked of him and has earned this opportunity where he will have an impact the next 4 seasons. We wish him the best and will always be a part of the Springfield Pics family.” Premier Head Coach and General Manager Rob Bonneau was quoted. John Sarno, U16 coach and College Placement coach was quoted at saying “Nico is a very good hard-working skater, and he is going to add lots of energy to the University of Tampa Bay’s line up. Congrats Nico!” The Pics family congratulates Nico, and wish him the best of luck. The Premier squad went 3 - 0 - 1 in the showcase, only falling to the Buffalo Stampede in overtime, while the Elite squad went undefeated in all four games, scoring a total of 15 goals, and only allowing 7 goals against.
Looking at the playoff scenario, the Premier squad could either be on the road if the Bruins win their last two games, or at home if the Bruins lose in regulation once. Below are the playoff scenarios for the first round of the USPHL Junior Tournament: Pics at home against Bruins if the Bruins lose at least one game in regulation Pics at home against Islanders if the Bruins lose one game and the Islanders win both games ****Bruins and Islanders play each other on Wednesday**** Pics on the road against the Bruins if the Bruins win one game and the other goes to overtime. The Elite squad will be on the road in the first round against the Islanders.
Thomas Malatinec, Martin Rudolf, and Brigham Dubey all contributed in a victory against the Whalers, snapping a two-game skid.
Thomas Malatinec got the first goal of the game early on when he made a toss at the goal, and it slipped through the goaltenders' pad and post to make it 1 - 0. Nick Disanti and Matus Vojtech were credited with the assists.
The Whalers struck back, but Martin Rudolf responded twice in quick succession. Simon Higgins and Chris Foster both contributed to the goals.
Brigham Dubey potted an empty net goal to seal the deal. Colin Sherwood stopped 39 out of 40 shots in the win.
