This
was our first team trip to New England. Last February,
we spent a week in upstate NY playing high school teams
and visiting colleges.
This season, we arrived in Albany on November 20 and played in the Albany Academy
Jamboree on Sunday, November 21. On Monday, we had a tour of Middlebury College
given by the assistant hockey coach, then drove up to Burlington to the University
of Vermont where the Green Mountain Glades were a no-show at Gunnerson Arena.
We took the ferry across to NY and drove to Lake Placid where the team practiced
that night on the 1932 Olympic Arena. The next day we toured Northwood
School and Clarkson University and later that night beat the Potsdam Midgets
in a scrimmage at the SUNY Potsdam arena. On Wednesday, we practiced in our
coach’s hometown, Tupper Lake, NY and had a late brunch at the Lumberjack
Café. Thursday morning, we packed up and drove north to play the Malone
Midgets in Malone, NY, before driving all the way across NY and MA to Springfield.
Luckily the tournament three-game-guarantee turned into five games for our
team so we really got our money’s worth of ice! A real bonus was the
visit arranged by Brian Collins to Loomis Chaffee
School because several of our boys are applying to prep schools for next year
and now Loomis is one of their choices.

(By
the way, the 2’ high trophy rode home in its
own seat on United Airlines
because one of the moms
on our team is a UAL flight attendant!) |
