Nielsen Cup Nearing
posted February 7, 2007
Being
a Commissioner of one league is a demanding job but when
you consider one Charlie Nielsen heading a Select Youth
League, the Metro Boston Hockey League as well as the IJHL
and putting together many Holiday Tourneys with as many
as 150 teams at once you would have to say the man can
lead.
Well
it was no doubt that the West Springfield native would
receive the honor of having his name grace the International
Junior Hockeys’ NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP trophy this
March. His no-nonsense approach and “Put the
League First” philosophy
has put the IJHL on the road to success. After a long and
successful run with the Interstate League and capping it
off with the IJHL earning a National Jr. B Showcase Championship
in Springfield in 2002. He helped the IJHL reach the pinnacle
of Jr. B hockey.
This
valuable experience has proven his philosophy will work
again as he directs the college level International League
in the right direction. Having a hockey icon like Nielsen
gives the league real leadership. On March 11th around
3:30 pm a group of young men will be hoisting a beautiful
National Championship Cup around the Ice House in Exeter
New Hampshire. That cup will be represent excellence in
Junior hockey and will become as legendary as the man it
is named for. |
